MacPaint is a bitmap-based graphics painting software program developed by Apple Computer and released with the original Macintosh personal computer in The MacPaint software seems to be old or discontinued. Such programs may not work on modern operating systems properly, are no longer available and supported by their original developers.   When it dropped in , The New York Times said MacPaint was “better than anything else of its kind offered on personal computers by a factor of ”Professional manuals, design plans, digital scribbles — it was all unfolding in the program. A year later, The Times was still singing its praises, calling it an opportunity for Average Joes to “[make] a mouse their scribe.”.

Bill Atkinson began writing MacPaint in February , just after Susan Kare joined the Mac team to design bitmaps for fonts and icons. Susan became one of the first and most accomplished users of MacPaint, trying out new features as they were developed . Apple’s MacBook line of laptops is the Gold Standard of portable computing — they seamlessly blend power, versatility, and elegant designs to deliver some of .

  MacPaint had several small features, likely to go unnoticed because they simply make good sense. Among these are cursors that change size and shape to reflect the current brush, line weight, or tool. Many of MacPaint's advanced features are hidden, relying on a double-click of a tool, or holding Option, Command, or Shift while dragging the mouse. He was the 7th or 8th person to use Photoshop and co-wrote the first book on it. As one of the first illustrators using Macpaint, he did a lot of work for Mac magazines and produced backgrounds for the first comic drawn on a computer, Shatter. He has been featured heavily in graphic design publications and at Photoshop conventions.
