    Experimental data are given for a sparse effusion hole array, with spanwise and streamwise impingement hole spacing such that coolant jet hole centerlines are located midway between individual effusion hole entrances. 1. Introduction. Impinging jets have been studied extensively; their characterization is used in many engineering applications. Most studies focus on heat and mass transfer (Martin, ; Rahimi et al., ; Hofmann et al., ; Xu et al., ), this work analyzes the properties of the wall jet originating from the impingement of underexpanded planar jets, with applications to surface.

An experimental investigation into the sound-producing characteristics of moderately and highly underexpanded supersonic impinging jets exhausting from a round convergent nozzle is presented. The production of large plate tones by impingement on a square plate with a side dimension equal to 12 nozzle exit diameters is studied using random and phase-locked shadowgraph photography.

The aerodynamic noise generated by a subsonic jet impinging on a flat plate is studied from measurements of near-field and surface-pressure fluctuations. The far-field noise measured at 90° to the jet axis is found to be generated by two different physical mechanisms. Experimental data and analytical predictions for air/liquid mist jet cooling of small heat sources are presented.

The mist jet was created using a coaxial jet atomizer, with a liquid jet of diameter μm located on the axis of an annular air jet of diameter 2 mm.
